Free play on two matches
Matching two of five wins a Quick Pick free play instead of cash (odds 1 in 9.62), which is why the overall odds look so short.
Take 5 is New York’s twice-daily five-number game: pick five numbers from 1–39 for $1 per play. Draws are at 2:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. ET. Overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 8.77, and matching two numbers wins a free Quick Pick. Cash prizes are pari-mutuel: 20% of the prize pool funds the jackpot, 30% the second prize, and 50% the third prize.
1. Select 5 numbers
Choose 5 numbers from 1 to 39, or mark Quick Pick and let the terminal choose.
2. Choose midday, evening, or both
Each drawing is a separate $1 play. Midday sales close at 2:15 p.m. ET and evening sales at 10:20 p.m. ET.
3. Add Instant Win (optional)
For $1 more per play, Instant Win numbers are printed on your ticket. Match any of your numbers to them and win up to $500 per number right away — your play still enters the drawing.
4. Choose how many drawings
Pay $1 per play (add-ons cost extra). Tell the retailer how many consecutive drawings you want, or mark Advance Play on the slip.
