Bedford County woman wins $577,777 in Gold 7s

An anonymous Bedford County woman won the top prize in the Virginia Lottery’s Gold 7s scratcher. Her husband stopped by Quik-E Foods at 4380 Waterlick Road in Forest to get gas for his mower and bought two Gold 7s tickets while he was there. When he came home, he set the two tickets on the table and told his wife they were hers. She then scratched them and learned one was worth the top prize of $577,777.

The winner chose to remain anonymous. Virginia law permits any winner of a Virginia Lottery prize to claim it anonymously, in which case the Lottery does not publicly disclose the winner’s identity.

The winner plans to use her winnings to do some traveling.

Gold 7s is one of dozens of scratcher games offered by the Virginia Lottery. It features prizes ranging from $10 up to $577,777. This is the first top prize claimed in the game, which means two more remain unclaimed. The chances of winning the top prize are 1 in 979,200. The odds of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 3.9.

All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. The winner lives in Bedford County, which received more than $7.4 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year. In Fiscal Year 2026, the Lottery raised more than $914 million for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.
