WEST VIRGINIA LOTTERY JULY 8, 2026 TWO MILLION DOLLAR TICKET CLAIMED BY ANONYMOUS WINNER TUESDAY

Charleston, WV – West Virginia has its newest millionaire, after the $2 million winning Powerball ticket sold back in May was claimed Tuesday at West Virginia Lottery Headquarters.

The winner, who has exercised the right of anonymity, purchased the ticket at Go-Mart #29 in Shinnston and the ticket matched all five numbers with the Power Play option on the May 23 Powerball drawing.

“We love this,” Acting Director David Bradley said. “Anytime we have a winner, we are ecstatic, but to have someone win $2 million is just so life changing. Purchasing that Power Play option doubled their prize, and it’s just $1 more per play. It’s a great feature, but no matter how exciting all of this is, we always want to encourage responsible game play.”

The win marks the sixth time a ticket has hit for $1 million or more in West Virginia since 2024, and the 18th time this decade.

The West Virginia Lottery has given over $13.7 billion in proceeds for the state since its inception in 1986. These proceeds benefit seniors and veterans, education, and tourism, as well as other worthy causes around the state.

The Powerball jackpot currently sits at $434 million with the next drawing slated for Wednesday, July 8. Tickets are $2 apiece and tickets must be purchased by 9:59 each drawing night. Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.
