Winner photoAn anonymous Portsmouth woman was on a winning streak. While at the Food Lion at 5734 Churchland Blvd. in Portsmouth, she had won $30 on Virginia Lottery games, so she decided to use those winnings to play again. That second time, she won $50 and reinvested some of the winnings in a Set for Life ticket. Turns out, the third time was a charm, and she ended up winning the game’s second prize of $100,000!

The winner chose to remain anonymous. Virginia law permits any winner of a Virginia Lottery prize to claim it anonymously, in which case the Lottery does not publicly disclose the winner’s identity.

“I’ve been a nervous wreck for a week!” the woman told Virginia Lottery officials when she claimed her prize.

Set for Life is one of dozens of scratcher games offered by the Virginia Lottery. The Portsmouth woman won the second prize in this game. There are two unclaimed prizes of $100,000 remaining and one unclaimed top prize of $6,000,000 remaining. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 816,000. The odds of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 3.7.

All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. The winner lives in Portsmouth, which received more than $22.2 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year. In Fiscal Year 2026, the Lottery raised more than $914 million for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.
