COLUMBIA, SC (September 23, 2026) – A Marion lottery player hasn’t gotten used to being a millionaire.
“I’m in denial,” she told South Carolina Education Lottery officials, who caught up with her a few weeks after cashing in the $1 million win.
“I never thought this would happen to me,” she said.
The winner says she stopped at the Palmetto Express on S. Hwy. 41 in Marion to buy a $10 lottery ticket to take home to scratch. She didn’t expect to win much.
“I’ll never forget that day,” she said. “I went running through my house screaming ‘I won $1 million.’”
The winner, who does not wish to be identified, hasn’t spent any of the windfall yet, but wants to invest most of it.
“Nothing has changed,” she said. “I’m still the same person.”
