Lynchburg man wins $698,216 in Cash 5 with EZ Match

An anonymous Lynchburg man was checking his email when he saw he had one from the Virginia Lottery. That email told him he had won a Cash 5 with EZ Match jackpot worth $698,216. “I had to clean my glasses because there were so many zeros!” the man said.

The winner chose to remain anonymous. Virginia law permits any winner of a Virginia Lottery prize to claim it anonymously, in which case the Lottery does not publicly disclose the winner’s identity.

This jackpot win was from the September 9 Cash 5 with EZ Match drawing. The winning numbers for that drawing were 7-16-23-27-45. When asked if he has any plans for his winnings, the Lynchburg man said he hopes to use them to pay off his mortgage.

Cash 5 with EZ Match features a rolling jackpot starting at a minimum of $200,000. The odds of matching all five numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 1,221,759.

All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. The winner lives in Lynchburg, which received more than $8.8 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year. In Fiscal Year 2026, the Lottery raised more than $914 million for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.
