Oakland County Man Wins $1 Million Playing Michigan Lottery’s Ruby 7s Instant Game

“Why not?” are the two words that led an Oakland County man to a $1 million win playing the Michigan Lottery’s Ruby 7s instant game!

“I picked out several different scratch-off tickets while I was at the store, and as the clerk was grabbing them off the rolls, she asked if I wanted a Ruby 7s ticket too, so I said: ‘Why not?’” said the lucky 62-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous. “I started scratching the tickets when I got in my car and went into shock when I saw a $1 million win on the Ruby 7s ticket. My daughter was with me, so I showed her the ticket, and she nearly hit her head on the roof of the car from jumping up with excitement!”

The player bought his winning ticket at the Speedway, located at 1010 South Rochester Road in Rochester. He recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. He chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount.

“This prize is going to give me some leeway financially. It will allow me to start college funds for my kids, buy a house, and then I’ll have some fun with the rest,” the player said.

Players have won more than $16 million playing Ruby 7s, which launched in June. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $1 million. More than $29 million in prizes remain, including two $1 million top prizes, 15 $10,000 prizes, and 613 $1,000 prizes.

In 2025, Lottery players won more than $1.7 billion playing instant games.
