Official release
COLUMBIA, SC (October 15, 2026) – An Upstate man’s $500,000 Powerball® win wasn’t his first big lottery windfall, and he hopes it won’t be his last.
The Lottery caught up with the Powerball® winner this week when he was leaving the Publix on Rochester Hwy. in Seneca with his groceries and a ticket for last night’s drawing. That’s the same store where he bought the ticket that won him the half-a-million prize in the Double Play® drawing held after the regular Powerball® drawing on September 12.
“I’ve won before,” he told South Carolina Education Lottery officials. Years back, he won a seven-figure prize from the Georgia Lottery.
“He’s Mr. Lucky,” said his wife, with plans for his recent win. “I would like to go to a jewelry store and pick out something sparkly.”
When asked his secret to winning, the husband says playing the Lottery is a hobby for him, like playing golf. He buys his tickets for fun when he does his grocery shopping.
To win the $500,000 prize, his Powerball® ticket beat odds of more than 1 in 11 million.
And he’s not done winning yet. “I want to win the Cash 5 next,” he said. Its jackpot for tonight's drawing is worth $811,000.
Publix Super Markets Inc #1671 in Seneca was rewarded with a $5,000 commission for selling the ticket.
