Gloria Sprinkle is all smiles after claiming a $50,000 prize Oct. 28 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
Already excited because she thought she had won $5,000 on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off, Gloria Sprinkle, of Baltimore, was flat out shocked when she realized the ticket was worth 10 times more.
Still smiling ear-to-ear, she claimed the windfall Oct. 28 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
She reports she visited Maiden Choice Liquors at 1064 Maiden Choice Lane in Catonsville where she decided to play the In the Green scratch-off because she was already familiar with the game. She bought two of them.
It wasn’t until the next day while getting ready to leave for work that she remembered to scratch her tickets. At 7:30 a.m. she began scratching, noticing only a single match for a $5,000 prize on the number 23. Gloria went to work excited about the prize, but unaware she had matched substantially more.
She went back to the store where she purchased the ticket and scanned to confirm her win. That’s when she learned the prize amount she had been daydreaming about was inaccurate. She had won $50,000.
But she still couldn’t figure out the math on the ticket. When she went back and reviewed it, she noticed she also matched, numbers 7 and 17, plus two safe symbols for instant wins. The three matched numbers and two instant wins totaled $25,000, but there also was an 2X multiplier in the upper left of the ticket, which she initially hadn’t even bothered to scratch.
Gloria did not keep the news to herself. She told friends, neighbors and co-workers. When asked about her plans for her windfall, she said her house and car are both paid off and she’s already been on vacation. She’s just going to invest it. Gloria is retired from Giant Supermarkets and now works at a department store.
Maiden Choice Liquors receives a $500 bonus.
The In the Green instant ticket was launched in July. It began with seven $50,000 top prizes, of which four still remain unclaimed.
